Through the experiences of everyday citizens, Zhuang Hui’s photographs explore the notion of identity within the shifting sociopolitical landscape of contemporary China. The artist was born in 1963 in the remote town of Yumen and was inspired early on by his father, a professional photographer, who traveled to remote areas of the country on assignments to document the local people. In addition to photography, Zhuang’s work includes sculptural installations and performances.
