Yang Fudong

born 1971, in Beijing, China; lives and works in Shanghai, China

Yang Fudong is considered one of China’s leading video artists from the second generation of artists to come of age after the Cultural Revolution. Yang graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 1995. He started his art practice by creating video works in the late 1990s and has created a significant body of work, primarily in photography, film, and installation. His works explore the structures and forms of identities in myths, personal memories, and life experiences while providing unique visual interpretations of the subjects from multiple cultural perspectives that transcend time and space.
