Wang Jin's practice incorporates performance, photographs, and installations to examine the impact of China's economic growth and the relationship between commerce and power dynamics following the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976. The artist received a degree in traditional Chinese painting at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 1987. Considered one of the pioneers of conceptual and performance-based art, Wang engages with the shifting social attitudes and environmental issues in his often politically-charged, performances.
