Sun Xun
born 1980, in Fuxin, China; lives and works in Beijing, China
Sun Xun’s video animations, drawings, paintings, and site-specific installations consider the lingering impact of the Cultural Revolution on Chinese society, the subjective nature of history, and the disconnect between personal experience and officially recorded events. His surreal narratives often explore the themes of global history, culture, memory, and politics through the use of animals and other allegorical characters. Sun graduated from the China Academy of Fine Arts in 2006, and in 2008, he founded Pi Animation in Beijing.
