Ranbir Kaleka
born 1953, in Patiala, Punjab, India; lives and works in New Delhi, India
Ranbir Kaleka’s paintings, photographs, and video works share an underlying element of mystery. His painterly aesthetic in video art produces a dreamlike sensibility that offsets his often surreal and psychologically loaded subject matter. Kaleka earned a BA from the College of Art, Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1975 and an MA from the Royal College of Art in London in 1987. He first established himself as a neo-expressionist painter in London, and it was only upon his return to India in 1998 that he began focusing on video and new media.
