Qiu Zhijie
born 1969, in Zhangzhou, China; lives and works in Beijing, China
Qiu Zhijie is one of the leaders of the 85 New Wave avant-garde movement in China that emerged in the mid-1980s. He is best known for his innovative text and calligraphy-based practice realized through painting, photography, performance, installation, and video. Qui graduated from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now China Academy of Art), Hangzhou, China in 1992 and currently teaches in the Department of Intermedia Arts.
