Mariko Mori
born 1967, in Tokyo, Japan; lives and works in New York, United States and Tokyo, Japan
One of Japan’s most renown contemporary artists, Mariko Mori works in multiple disciplines and explores themes of technology, fantasy, reality, spirituality, futurism, and ancient traditions. Mori earned a BA in fine art from Chelsea College of Arts, London, in 1992. In 2010, the artist established the Faou Foundation, developed around the idea that “we are one.” The foundation’s purpose is to create public art installations for specific natural environments around the world to show “that humanity and nature are of equal value.”
