Jay Yao (Jose Campos III)
born 1980, in Vancouver, Canada; lives and works in Manila, Phillipines
Jay Yao, born Jose Campos III, is a Manila-based artist who began his career as a fashion photographer. This formative experience has influenced his artistic practice, most notably in the Homecoming series. Yao is most interested in exploring the growing economic disparity between Manila, the country’s bustling cosmopolitan center, and the rural communities found across the Philippines. Yao is an alumnus of Hampshire College, Parsons School of Design, and Columbia University.
