Gu Wenda
born 1955, in Shanghai, China; lives and works in Shanghai, China and New York, United States
Gu Wenda is one of the pioneers of the Chinese 85 New Wave art movement. He uses language as a medium to deconstruct meaning, challenge traditions, and examine the outcomes of cross-cultural exchange. The artist graduated from the Shanghai School of Arts and Crafts. He received an MFA from the China Academy of Art where he subsequently taught from 1981 to 1987. Gu immigrated to the United States in 1987.
