Ardeshir Mohasses

Ardeshir Mohasses was an eminent cartoonist, illustrator, and painter who played a major role in the development of satirical cartoon and visual critique in Iran. A self-taught artist, Mohasses graduated with a degree in political science from the Faculty of Law and Political Science at Tehran University in 1962. Before leaving Tehran for New York in 1976, where he stayed for the rest of his life, his work had appeared in many books, magazines, newspapers, and gallery shows. Throughout his career, Mohassess continued to produce work that reflected the political turmoil in Iran, and he remained a resolute social critic, focusing on the cruelty, humor, and vulnerability of human nature.
